HIV/AIDS - the Uganda experience

The impact of HIV/AIDS on Ugandan society, as in many other African countries, has been devastating.

In an environment where thousands of people migrate to the cities only to find unemployment and poverty, where many families are obliged to live apart, where the use and abuse of drugs and alcohol are common and casual prostitution is the only way to survive, pandemics like HIV/AIDS spread easily.

However, through a very active open and transparent information and prevention programme, Uganda has, over the last decade, been able to reduce considerably the infection rate.
